RULES: You may enter yourself or someone else in more than one award category, but please do not submit more than one ballot for the same person or restaurant in the same category. DO NOT send press clippings, press releases, or other attachments. Multiple submissions DO NOT affect the outcome of the balloting.

ELIGIBILITY: Awards are open to any food or beverage professional in the U.S. and Puerto Rico who meets the criteria. Previous award winners from 2008 to 2012 may not be candidates again in the same category, though they may be eligible in other categories. Winners from 1992 through 2008 are eligible again in the same category, and continue to be eligible in categories other than those for which they have won an award from 2009 to 2012.

DEADLINE: Entries must be received by December 31, 2013 at 11:59PM.

JUDGING: This entry is for PROPOSED NOMINATION ONLY. Nominees and winners will be selected by food and beverage professionals in the U.S. Judges consist of past Chef and Restaurant Award winners, the Restaurant Awards Committee, and regional judges selected from among leading restaurant critics, food and wine editors, and culinary educators.

ANNOUNCEMENT AND NOTIFICATION OF NOMINEES AND WINNERS: Semifinalists will be announced mid-February and nominees will be announced and notified via e-mail on March 18, 2014. THE JAMES BEARD FOUNDATION AWARDS are independent of any other program sponsored by The James Beard Foundation. Cooking at the James Beard House, contributing to the Beard House, or participating in any Beard Foundation event has no influence on the awards process. The awards are overseen by a committee made up of leading restaurant critics, food writers, and other professional journalists, none of whom has any connection with the James Beard House. All committee members are required to sign a pledge of confidentiality regarding awards deliberations and to vouch that they will not enter any sort of financial relationship with any restaurant or person who could be eligible for a Restaurant or Chef Award. Voters include more than 400 journalists, educators, and past Award winners who send ballots to an independent accounting firm that tabulates them and keeps the results secret from all voters, including the awards committee, until the annual Awards ceremony.
