Daniel Boulud has the recipe. And we're not talking two cups of this and two of that. Only 47 years old, he has built an empire based on taste, literally. Daniel is the jewel in his crown of restaurants, considered by many the best in New York City, and we all know what that means. But then there's Café Boulud and DB Bistro Moderne, too. There are books and articles and television appearances and charity benefits and special meals for royalty, heads of state, movie stars, and ordinary folk like us who just like great grub. We have already bestowed numerous Beard Awards on Boulud and his bunch, and this year he beamed proudly as all three of the chefs of his restaurants—Alex Lee, Andrew Carmellini, and Jean-François Bruel—waited anxiously for the winners to be read (Bruel took Rising Star). But it is our honor now to honor him at one of our favorite events of the year, Chefs & Champagne.

There's a recipe behind Chefs & Champagne, too. Take some of the best chefs in the Northeast, put them in a beautiful setting in the Hamptons, pop open a whole lot of fine Champagne Charles Heidsieck, and settle into a late-afternoon party groove. This year we are back on the Wölffer Estate in Sagaponack, New York. Under the direction of owner Christian Wölffer, the winery's medal-donning cuvées epitomize how Long Island has matured into one of the country's finest winemaking regions.

France has a few years on us, though, and Charles Heidsieck has been putting the bubbles in bubbly since 1851. Based in Reims, the house is known for sparkling wines with a rich, smooth body and flowery nose. As the internet home of Bon Appétit and Gourmet Magazines, not to mention a bona fide food and travel media outlet in its own right, epicurious.com brings Beard news, recipes, and much more to cyber space and the world at large. Our other sponsors include Williams-Sonoma, Crown International Marketing, Inc., Melissa's Produce and Specialty Foods, and Seattle Coffee Company.

As much as eating fine food and drinking fine Champagne, Beard members like shopping, so we will also have a silent auction of hard-to-find and one-of-a-kind packages. The only thing missing from this recipe is you.
