Dear Scholarship Applicant:

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the James Beard Foundation scholarship program. James Beard, known as the father of American Gastronomy, is fondly remembered by his friends and colleagues as a man who was always there when help was needed. For that reason, more people probably owe their introduction or start in the food world to him than any other single person. It is the Foundation's mission to continue James Beard's legacy of encouragement and support through the scholarship program, first established in his name in 1990.

We are pleased to enclose information for our 2001 scholarships. To apply for a scholarship, fill out all 4 pages of the enclosed application form following the Application Guidelines, postmarked by April 15, 2001, to the following address:
